COURSE CURRICULUM

The GIS and Remote Sensing MRes combines core modules with a wide range of optional subjects to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical expertise in spatial data analysis and environmental management. Core modules include Applications in GIS and the MRes Research Project, which equip students with the technical and research skills needed to design, implement, and evaluate original projects in the field of geospatial science. A variety of optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to individual interests and career goals, covering areas such as Policy and Implementation in Town Planning, Masters Independent Study, Communicating Issues in Ecology and Conservation, Introduction to Geographical Information Systems, Contested Natures and Social Justice, Environmental Impact Assessment, Key Concepts in Environmental Assessment and Management, Hydrology and Pollutant Transport, Sustainable Urbanism in Coastal Communities, Sustainable Construction, Applied Taxonomy for Conservation, Microbiology, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Remediation, Applied Remote Sensing, Water Quality Assessment and Management, and Water Recycling Technology. This flexible approach enables students to develop specialised skills in urban planning, environmental sustainability, conservation, water management, and advanced remote sensing and GIS techniques. By integrating theoretical study, practical application, and research experience, the program prepares graduates for careers in geospatial research, environmental consultancy, policy development, and other scientific and technical fields where spatial analysis is critical.
