COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geoscience MRes combines core modules with a wide range of optional specialisations to provide a comprehensive understanding of earth sciences, environmental management, and spatial analysis. The core modules include Introduction to Geographical Information Systems and the MRes Research Project, which equip students with technical skills, research expertise, and the ability to design and conduct an original research project in their chosen area. Students can select from numerous option modules to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals, covering topics such as Policy and Implementation in Town Planning, Masters Independent Study, Communicating Issues in Ecology and Conservation, Contested Natures and Social Justice, Environmental Impact Assessment, Key Concepts in Environmental Assessment and Management, Hydrology and Pollutant Transport, Sustainable Urbanism in Coastal Communities, Sustainable Construction, Applied Taxonomy for Conservation, Microbiology, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Remediation, Applications in GIS, Applied Remote Sensing, Water Quality Assessment and Management, and Water Recycling Technology. This flexibility allows students to gain specialised knowledge in areas including environmental planning, urban sustainability, conservation, water management, and advanced geospatial techniques. By integrating theoretical study, practical application, and research, the program equips graduates with the analytical, technical, and professional skills needed to pursue careers in geoscience research, environmental consultancy, policy development, and related scientific and technical fields.
