COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Politics MRes combines core modules with optional specialisations to provide a comprehensive understanding of environmental policy, social justice, and activism. Core modules include Contested Natures and Social Justice and the MRes Research Project, which equip students with critical knowledge and research skills to investigate contemporary environmental challenges. These modules encourage the analysis of environmental policies, interventions, and governance processes, focusing on their design, negotiation, dispute, and implementation across government, corporate, and civil society contexts. In addition to the core modules, students can select from a wide range of option modules to tailor their learning to individual interests and career goals. Options include Policy and Implementation in Town Planning, Masters Independent Study, Communicating Issues in Ecology and Conservation, Introduction to Geographical Information Systems, Environmental Impact Assessment, Key Concepts in Environmental Assessment and Management, Hydrology and Pollutant Transport, Sustainable Urbanism in Coastal Communities, Sustainable Construction, Applied Taxonomy for Conservation, Applications in GIS, Applied Remote Sensing, Water Quality Assessment and Management, and Water Recycling Technology. These optional modules allow students to develop expertise in areas such as urban planning, environmental assessment, sustainability, and spatial analysis. By combining theoretical study, applied research, and practical skills, the program prepares graduates for careers in environmental policy, consultancy, advocacy, and further academic research.
