COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry MRes program combines practical and theoretical training to prepare students for advanced research in chemical and pharmaceutical sciences. Students engage in core modules that provide essential skills and knowledge, including techniques in chemical and pharmaceutical analysis, current research in the pharmaceutical sciences, and a substantial MRes research project. This research project allows students to design, plan, and execute an independent investigation under expert supervision, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking while developing confidence in laboratory practice. The program also offers a wide range of optional modules, enabling students to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. Options include applied nucleic acid and protein biochemistry, monitoring signalling molecules in neuroscience, nanotechnology research in therapeutics and diagnostics, advanced pharmaceutical analysis, and astrobiology, among others. These options allow students to deepen their expertise in specialised areas of chemical and pharmaceutical research and explore interdisciplinary approaches. By combining rigorous practical training, research-led learning, and opportunities for independent study, the Chemistry MRes equips graduates with the skills, knowledge, and experience required for careers in research, industry, or further academic study.
