COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Sciences MRes is a research-focused program designed to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge in biomedical research across a broad range of disciplines. Central to the course is the MRes Research Project, which provides hands-on experience in designing, conducting, and analysing independent research, allowing students to develop a thorough understanding of the research process. Alongside this, students undertake core modules in Evaluating Research in Biosciences and choose between Applied Nucleic Acid Biochemistry or Applied Protein Biochemistry, gaining specialised practical expertise. The program also offers a variety of optional modules, including Cancer: Bench to Bedside, Biological Membranes: Drug Targets and Disease, Regenerative Medicine and Medical Devices, Omics for Diseases, Monitoring Signalling Molecules in Neuroscience, Ageing: Pathology and Prevention, and Masters Independent Study, enabling students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. By combining practical laboratory experience with critical evaluation of research methods, the course develops technical competence, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are prepared for research careers, industry roles, or further academic study, emerging with the confidence and expertise to contribute to advances in biomedical science, healthcare, and related fields.
