COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biological Sciences MRes at Brighton is designed to provide an advanced, research-focused experience, enabling students to develop expertise in contemporary biosciences while contributing to real-world scientific challenges. Core modules include Evaluating Research in Biosciences, which equips students with the skills to critically assess scientific literature, and the MRes Research Project, a substantial independent investigation allowing students to explore a specialised area in depth. Option modules offer opportunities to tailor the program to individual interests and career aspirations, with choices ranging from Omics for Diseases, Biological Membranes, Regenerative Medicine and Medical Devices, and Monitoring Signalling Molecules in Neuroscience, to Ageing, Cancer, Astrobiology, Microbiology, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Remediation, and Water Quality Assessment and Management. Additional modules such as Masters Independent Study and Introduction to Geographical Information Systems provide further flexibility and skill development. Students benefit from access to cutting-edge facilities including advanced microscopy, tissue culture labs, and molecular biology suites, enabling hands-on experience alongside theoretical learning.
