COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes in Architecture and Design combines core research training with opportunities to specialise through optional modules, equipping students with advanced skills in critical thinking, design research, and independent project work. Core modules such as Design Research Practices and the Architectural Research Project provide a structured framework for developing rigorous research skills, enabling students to explore complex architectural and spatial issues in depth. Through these modules, students learn to apply research methodologies, critically analyse sources, and produce original, high-quality outputs that demonstrate both theoretical insight and practical application. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, including Architectural Humanities, Situate, Radical Modes of Design Culture and Practice, Sustainable Design: Future(s), and Critical Readings in Spatial Design, fostering interdisciplinary exploration and encouraging experimental approaches. The combination of core and optional modules ensures a balance between guided learning and self-directed research, preparing students for a wide range of professional or academic pathways. Graduates are equipped to pursue doctoral study, research-focused roles in industry or professional practice, and positions in the public sector, bringing expertise in architectural theory, critical analysis, and innovative design practice.
