COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aquatic Environments MRes combines advanced research training with practical and theoretical learning to prepare students for impactful careers in environmental sciences. Core modules such as Water Quality Assessment and Management and the MRes Research Project provide a strong foundation in analysing and addressing critical issues in aquatic environments, including pollution, water quality, and ecosystem health. Students have the flexibility to tailor their studies through a wide range of option modules, covering areas such as policy and planning, ecological communication, GIS and remote sensing, environmental assessment, hydrology, sustainable urbanism, and conservation techniques. This breadth allows students to develop interdisciplinary expertise and apply their skills to real-world environmental challenges. The course emphasizes hands-on experience, including fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and applied research, fostering the ability to design and execute rigorous studies, interpret complex data, and communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences. Students also engage with contemporary debates around social justice, sustainability, and environmental management, gaining insights into how research informs policy, conservation, and community-focused solutions.
