COURSE CURRICULUM

This architectural course is designed to develop confident, assured designers capable of articulating their ideas, ideals, and aspirations while engaging critically with contemporary architectural debates. The program emphasizes a gradual deepening of understanding, providing students with the tools to reflect on design strategies and navigate complex design challenges. Central to the course are the design studio laboratories, which form the backbone of learning and are integrated with other modules to provide a holistic understanding of architecture over two years. In the first year, students focus on strategy, combining a year-long Design Studio module with semester-long modules in Building and Environment, Architectural Humanities, and Future Practice. These modules run alongside the studio, providing theoretical, technical, and contextual knowledge to support design development. The second year centers on design practice through the masters Design Thesis, supported by the Design Research Practices module, which introduces research methodologies and collaborative inquiry across design disciplines. In semester two, students undertake self-directed research in the Architectural Research Specialisation module, allowing them to explore topics arising from their design work. The course integrates practical design, research, and critical reflection, ensuring students graduate with a comprehensive understanding of architecture as a discipline, equipped to contribute creatively, critically, and responsibly to the profession.
