COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Journalism course is structured around six 20-credit modules, each designed to provide around 30 hours of contact time, alongside an independent final project supervised by an allocated mentor. Core modules include News Journalism, which develops fundamental reporting and writing skills, and Critical Issues in Sport Journalism, offering insights into the key debates and ethical considerations shaping the industry. Sport Journalism Practice focuses on practical skills, enabling students to produce content across multiple media platforms, while Journalism in Society explores the broader role of sports media within social, political, and cultural contexts. Digital Journalism equips students with the technical expertise required for online and multimedia reporting, reflecting the growing importance of digital platforms in contemporary sports coverage. The Professional Practice module ensures students gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations. The program culminates in a Journalism Dissertation, an independent project that allows students to apply their skills and knowledge to a substantial research or practical assignment, under the guidance of a supervisor. Together, these modules combine theory, critical thinking, and applied practice, preparing graduates for successful careers in sports journalism, multimedia reporting, and related media roles.
