COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sequential Design/Illustration MA curriculum is structured to support students in developing both practical skills and research expertise through a combination of major projects and research-focused modules. Central to the course is the Major Sequential Project, delivered in two stages, which allows students to plan, develop, and execute a substantial creative project that demonstrates their understanding of sequence, narrative, and visual storytelling. Stage One focuses on the conceptualisation and initial development of the project, encouraging experimentation and iterative design, while Stage Two is dedicated to refining, completing, and presenting the work to a professional standard. Alongside these projects, students engage with Practice-Based Research Methods, which introduces methodologies and critical approaches relevant to creative practice, helping to contextualise their work within broader artistic and theoretical frameworks. The Applied Research Methods module further develops analytical and evaluative skills, equipping students to critically assess creative outcomes, make informed design decisions, and reflect on their practice. The course culminates in the Completion Statement, providing an opportunity for students to articulate the process, rationale, and significance of their work. Through this combination of project-based learning and research, the program ensures that graduates are confident, skilled, and prepared to pursue careers in illustration, sequential design, and related creative industries.
