COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Global Politics and International Relations combines core modules with optional subjects to provide students with a thorough understanding of contemporary global issues and the skills to engage critically with international affairs. Core modules include Research Methods, Globalisation and Global Politics, Protecting Human Rights and Building Peace, and the Research Project. These modules equip students with the theoretical knowledge, analytical skills, and practical research experience necessary to investigate complex political, economic, and social challenges in a global context. Research Methods develops rigorous approaches to academic inquiry, while Globalisation and Global Politics explores how international systems, networks, and economic forces shape political outcomes. Protecting Human Rights and Building Peace focuses on international law, human rights, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding strategies, preparing students to engage with pressing global issues. The Research Project allows students to conduct an in-depth study on a specialised topic of interest. In addition, a range of option modules enables students to tailor their studies to their career goals and interests. Options include the Extended Essay, Heritage in a Global Context, Queer and Now, Human Rights and Humanitarian Intervention, Professional Placements, Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and Caring for Collections and their Users. This flexible approach allows students to develop expertise in areas such as human rights, global governance, heritage, and professional practice. Overall, the MA equips graduates with critical thinking, research, and professional skills needed for careers in international organisations, NGOs, policy-making, diplomacy, and further academic study.
