COURSE CURRICULUM

The creative writing program at Brighton combines core modules and optional specialisations to provide a comprehensive foundation in storytelling and literary practice. Core modules include Visual Narratives, Life Writing, Practices of Storytelling, Communities of Practice, and the Dissertation, which together equip students with the skills to develop, analyse, and produce creative work across a range of genres. These modules emphasise both the theoretical and practical aspects of writing, fostering an understanding of narrative structures, personal and communal storytelling, and the processes involved in creating a polished body of work. In addition to the core modules, students can select from option modules such as Protecting Human Rights and Building Peace, Mediating Objects, Queer and Now, The Process of Publishing, and Poetry: Theory and Practice, although availability may vary depending on timetabling and staff resources. These options allow students to tailor their learning to align with their individual interests, whether exploring social and cultural themes, publishing practices, or poetic forms. The program combines rigorous academic study with creative practice, providing opportunities for reflection, experimentation, and engagement with diverse storytelling methods.
