COURSE CURRICULUM

The law degrees at Brighton share a common first year, providing a comprehensive introduction to the foundations of law, including legal research, courtroom procedures, and core areas such as tort, contract, public, business, and professional legal practice. Classes are scheduled over three days each week, allowing students time for independent study and other campus activities. In the second year, students can continue on a broad law path or specialise in Law with Business or Law with Criminology. Practical skills are emphasised through modules such as mooting, which develop advocacy abilities in mock courtrooms and may include participation in national competitions. Students also have opportunities for work shadowing with judges, law firm partners, and other legal professionals. The second-year curriculum covers criminal law, equity and trusts, European Union law, land law, and professional legal practice, alongside optional modules tailored to individual interests. In the final year, students choose six option modules aligned with their career ambitions, further specialising in areas such as intellectual property, environmental law, human rights, criminal litigation, commercial law, and family law. The program also offers the chance to gain qualifying work experience through the pro bono legal clinic and complete a research project or dissertation. Graduates leave equipped with strong legal knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience, prepared for careers in law and related fields.
