COURSE CURRICULUM

The Strength and Conditioning degree at Brighton provides a comprehensive pathway for students to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in enhancing athletic performance and physical fitness. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in physiology, sport and exercise psychology, biomechanics, and musculoskeletal anatomy, while developing core coaching skills and understanding the scientific principles of sport and exercise. Year two expands on these skills, introducing applied physiology, performance assessment, biomechanics, and training prescription in strength and conditioning, alongside contemporary issues in sport coaching. Students also have the opportunity to choose option modules to specialise in areas such as nutrition, performance analysis, or coaching contexts, allowing them to tailor their learning to their interests. In the final year, students advance their expertise through modules in advanced strength coaching, the application of training principles, and professional development, while completing a dissertation to explore a specific area of interest in depth. Additional option modules provide further opportunities to specialise in areas including applied sport psychology, advanced performance analysis, sports nutrition, exercise and the brain, and sport business entrepreneurship. The program combines rigorous academic study with hands-on, practical experience, preparing graduates for professional careers in strength and conditioning, coaching, sports performance, and related fields within the sports industry.
