COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Management degree at Brighton equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in the dynamic sports industry. In the first year, students develop commercial awareness and business skills through hands-on projects such as organising and promoting a sports event. Core modules cover topics including sport management, sport media, finance, economics, and event planning, providing a foundation in both the business and sporting aspects of the industry. The second year focuses on professional development and preparation for placement, combining academic study with practical experience in a sport business organisation. Modules explore leadership, management, research, and reflective practice, enabling students to apply theory in real-world settings and gain valuable insights into operational and strategic challenges. The final year concentrates on the strategic implications of sport management, including marketing, organisational change, and research. Students undertake a dissertation on a topic of their choice, drawing on knowledge and experience from their placement, while option modules allow further specialisation in areas such as sport event tourism, entrepreneurship, and community sport development. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, project management, and communication skills, preparing them for careers in sport business, marketing, events, management, and other professional roles within the sports and leisure sector.
