COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Coaching degree offers a comprehensive program that develops students’ practical, theoretical, and analytical skills to become effective coaches across a range of sports and contexts. In the first year, students build a foundation by studying modules such as the science of movement, fundamentals of coaching, sport and society, and the practical application of coaching, alongside exploring the scientific study of sport and exercise. Year two allows students to deepen their knowledge through modules in coaching contexts and methodologies, professional practice, data analysis, and contemporary issues in sport coaching, while also providing opportunities to specialise through optional modules in areas such as sport psychology, performance assessment, leadership, and education. Students gain practical experience coaching peers, children, and athletes, supported by placements that provide exposure to real-world sporting environments. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through core modules including professional enquiry and critical perspectives in sport coaching, alongside completing a dissertation and selecting further options to align with their interests. The program combines practical coaching, reflective practice, and academic study to equip graduates with the skills to design, deliver, and evaluate effective coaching programs. By the end of the degree, students are prepared to work in schools, clubs, community settings, or professional sports organisations, promoting athlete development, performance, wellbeing, and lifelong participation in sport.
