COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Science degree provides a comprehensive understanding of how the human body functions during physical activity, exercise, and sport, integrating both sport science and exercise and health science across all three years. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, and sport and exercise psychology, while also exploring the broader social context of sport and undertaking integrated applied studies. In the second year, the focus shifts to developing applied skills and research competence, with core modules covering applied physiology, biomechanics, sport and exercise psychology, and data analysis, alongside a range of optional modules that allow students to specialise in areas such as performance assessment, nutrition, strength and conditioning, and teaching physical education. By the final year, students consolidate their learning through a dissertation and personal and professional development module, while further optional modules provide opportunities to deepen expertise in applied sport psychology, exercise and nutrition, injury rehabilitation, advanced strength coaching, and other specialist areas. Throughout the course, practical experience in labs, client sessions, and performance analysis ensures that students develop hands-on skills alongside theoretical knowledge. Graduates emerge well-equipped for careers in sport science, health promotion, coaching, rehabilitation, and related fields, combining scientific understanding with applied expertise to enhance performance and wellbeing.
