COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work degree provides a structured progression of learning and practice across three years, preparing students for professional social work. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of social work practice, exploring how social sciences inform the profession and understanding the impact of social policy on individuals and communities. Core modules cover topics such as human growth and development, law for social workers, and lived experiences, helping students develop a solid foundation of knowledge while beginning their professional training. In the second year, students build on this foundation by developing specialist knowledge and practical skills, with a focus on working with adults, children, and families. This year includes the first professional placement, offering hands-on experience that allows students to apply theory to practice and engage directly with service users. The final year consolidates learning through a second placement, providing opportunities to manage more complex cases and demonstrate professional competence. Students also undertake a social work dissertation, applying research skills to a chosen area of interest, which fosters critical thinking and reflective practice.
