COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology BA(Hons) degree at Brighton offers a thorough exploration of human behaviour, mind, and relationships, with strong emphasis on applying theory to real-world contexts. In the first year, students are introduced to key areas such as developmental psychology, applied psychology, wellbeing, and society, while building foundational research skills through practical investigations. Year two expands on this knowledge, allowing students to develop independent research capabilities, study brain, body, and cognition, and explore social psychology and individual differences. Opportunities for community placements and international exchanges provide hands-on experience, enhancing employability and broadening cultural perspectives. In the final year, students complete a Psychology Dissertation focused on their particular interests, supported by advanced laboratory facilities and technical guidance, alongside a choice of specialised option modules. These may include topics such as forensic psychology, mood and anxiety disorders in children, ecopsychology, cyberpsychology, and consumer culture, allowing students to tailor their learning to career aspirations or research ambitions. Throughout the course, students cultivate skills in critical analysis, communication, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making, preparing them for diverse professional pathways. Graduates are equipped for roles in clinical and educational settings, research, health and social care, or for further study toward becoming a Chartered Psychologist, combining theoretical understanding with practical expertise to positively impact society.
