COURSE CURRICULUM

The Podiatry degree offers a structured progression from foundational knowledge to advanced clinical practice, ensuring students develop the expertise required for professional podiatry. In the first year, students gain practical clinical experience while learning the academic principles underpinning podiatry, including physiology, clinical anatomy and biomechanics, podiatric dermatology, and clinical and behavioural sciences. They also engage in their first practice placement and explore professional preparation for healthcare practice. In the second year, the focus shifts to building on these initial clinical skills, with continued balance between theory and hands-on practice. Students study lower limb musculoskeletal pathology, prescription-only medicines for podiatrists, patient assessment, health psychology and management, and develop research skills and critical thinking. Practice placements continue to provide real-world experience, allowing students to refine their clinical reasoning and patient care abilities. The final year emphasizes advanced, multidisciplinary clinical experience, including specialist hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and orthopaedic operating sessions, preparing students for professional practice. Core modules cover musculoskeletal rehabilitation and management, complex health and long-term condition management, leadership, education, innovation, and professional practice, as well as independent learning and research. Graduates leave the program equipped with comprehensive clinical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional competencies, ready to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered podiatric care in diverse healthcare settings.
