COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physiotherapy degree at Brighton provides a comprehensive education in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for professional practice. In the first year, students focus on foundational subjects such as anatomy, physiology, and exercise prescription while developing core physiotherapy assessment and management skills. A professional module introduces students to the role of the physiotherapist, and opportunities to gain relevant work experience or volunteer with organisations help build interpersonal and professional skills. Modules include Foundations of Physiotherapy Assessment, Applied Musculoskeletal Anatomy, Exercise for Health and Rehabilitation, and Foundations of Physiotherapy Patient Management. In the second year, students further develop evidence-based clinical reasoning across musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiorespiratory settings in preparation for a six-week clinical placement. Modules cover Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy Management in Acute Care, and Physiotherapy Across the Lifespan, alongside practice placement and research methods training. In the final year, students consolidate their clinical skills through multiple placements, totaling a minimum of 1,000 hours, while undertaking a dissertation to investigate a specific area of physiotherapy in depth. The final year also includes modules to prepare for professional practice and develop a professional portfolio, with contributions from NHS, private practice, sports, and local healthcare managers. This structure ensures graduates are fully equipped for a successful physiotherapy career.
