COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography BSc (Hons) degree at Brighton provides a comprehensive study of physical, human, and environmental geography, preparing students to address contemporary environmental and societal challenges. In the first year, students build a foundation in key concepts, including landscape change, human impacts on environmental processes, and climate-related challenges. Core modules such as Fundamentals of Physical Geography, Human Geography, Global Challenges, and Exploring Environments introduce students to fieldwork, data analysis, and critical thinking, equipping them with essential practical and analytical skills. In the second year, students begin to tailor their studies through option modules while developing employability and professional skills. Core modules, including Earth Surface Processes, Professional Practice for Global Challenges, and International Field Work, are complemented by options such as Sustainable Futures, Political and Economic Geography, Environmental Pollution, and GIS and Remote Sensing, allowing students to explore areas aligned with their interests. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation, applying research methods and analytical techniques learned throughout the course. Additional option modules, including Geohazards, Advanced GIS, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Political Ecology, enable students to deepen expertise in specific topics and align their studies with career goals.
