COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Management BSc(Hons) degree provides a structured progression from foundational knowledge to independent research, equipping students with the skills to tackle pressing environmental challenges. In the first year, students gain a broad understanding of key areas, including physical geography, ecology, global environmental issues, and data analysis, while developing essential academic and fieldwork skills. Modules focus on geographical and environmental field techniques, statistical and spatial analysis, climate change, environmental degradation, and the fundamentals of ecology and conservation. In the second year, students deepen their expertise by critically examining the impact of human activities on landscapes, biodiversity, and environmental quality, including air and water pollution. Practical and professional skills are enhanced through international fieldwork, GIS and remote sensing, research design, and applied environmental projects, alongside modules addressing sustainability and professional practice in global challenges. The final year centres on independent research through a dissertation, allowing students to investigate a specific area of environmental management in depth. Core modules include environmental economics, environmental impact assessment, and specialized options such as water, sanitation, and health, ecological impact assessment, advanced GIS, and political ecology. Across all years, the degree combines theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in environmental consultancy, policy, conservation, and sustainable management, or for further academic study.
