COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics BSc degree provides a comprehensive understanding of economic theory, quantitative techniques, and applied business principles, preparing students for a wide range of careers. In the first year, students build a solid foundation in core economic concepts, financial markets, applied statistics, and quantitative methods, allowing them to explore different areas of interest and decide on potential specialisations. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics while developing essential analytical skills through econometrics and applied economics, including environmental economics. They also have the opportunity to begin specialising in pathways such as finance or data science, choosing from a range of core and optional modules that align with their career goals. The final year focuses on contemporary economic issues, global challenges, and policy debates, enabling students to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course. Students undertake a dissertation and may lead seminar activities, further honing their research, analytical, and communication skills. Optional modules allow for further specialisation, covering topics such as financial markets, behavioural economics, quantitative trading, and carbon accounting. Placement opportunities enhance practical experience, and the degree equips graduates with the ability to analyse complex economic problems, make informed decisions, and pursue careers in business, finance, government, or research.
