COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diagnostic Radiography degree is structured to develop students’ technical expertise, clinical competence, and professional skills over three years. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamental principles of diagnostic radiography, including the physics of radiation, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, alongside the foundations of professional practice. Early practice learning allows students to gain hands-on experience and begin applying theoretical knowledge in clinical settings. In the second year, the curriculum builds on this foundation with more advanced study in healthcare research methods, applied anatomy and physiology, and the science and technology behind diagnostic imaging. Students continue their professional development through practice learning, which provides increased exposure to clinical environments and strengthens their practical skills, communication, and patient care abilities. By the final year, students focus on advanced competencies including image interpretation and enhanced professional practice. They undertake a research-based project, allowing them to explore a specialist area of diagnostic radiography in depth while demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Throughout the degree, clinical placements are integrated into all three years, ensuring students gain real-world experience. On completion, graduates possess the technical knowledge, clinical proficiency, research experience, and professional skills required to work effectively as qualified diagnostic radiographers in diverse healthcare settings.
