COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science for Games BSc (Hons) degree offers a comprehensive education in both computing and game development, blending technical skills with creative problem-solving. In the first year, students gain a broad foundation across computing, computer science, and games development, studying modules such as game design and development, games programming, object-oriented game development, web development, 3D modelling and animation, and professional skills for the digital and games industries. This year establishes essential technical knowledge and creative skills, while providing insight into industry practices. In the second year, students build on this foundation and explore more specialised areas, including artificial intelligence for games, game engine fundamentals, integrated group projects, web-based game development, and game development frameworks. Optional modules, such as narrative game design and web application development, allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests. The final year consolidates prior knowledge and offers opportunities for deeper specialisation through a major computing project, multiplayer game development, and advanced programming modules. Students can choose options such as virtual reality systems, usability evaluation, marketing for software products, and cyber security. Across all three years, students develop the technical expertise, creative insight, and practical experience needed to pursue careers in game programming, interactive media, or software development in the competitive gaming and digital industries.
