COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Science BSc(Hons) degree provides a comprehensive foundation in the study of human health and disease, combining theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory skills to prepare students for careers in medical science and healthcare. In the first year, students explore the fundamentals of biomedical science, including genetics and molecular biology, biochemistry, human physiology, infection science, and blood sciences, while developing essential laboratory and professional skills. The second year builds on this foundation, broadening students’ understanding of human biochemistry, metabolism, molecular cell biology, genetics and genomics, infection and immunity, and human physiology, while also enhancing research and professional development skills. In the final year, the focus shifts toward clinical applications, covering areas such as cellular pathology, advanced diagnostics in blood science, clinical immunology and microbiology, and innovations in bioscience research. Students undertake an independent research project linked to a faculty research group, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical context, develop critical thinking, and gain experience in experimental design and data analysis. Throughout the course, students engage with case studies, laboratory work, and professional practices that mirror real-world biomedical and clinical environments. This program equips graduates with the knowledge, technical skills, and confidence required to pursue careers as biomedical scientists, clinical researchers, or to advance into postgraduate study in medicine or healthcare-related disciplines.
