COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting and Finance BSc at the University of Brighton is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting, and economics over three years. In the first year, students are introduced to the core disciplines through modules such as Fundamentals of Management Accounting, Fundamentals of Financial Accounting, Financial Skills, Business Economics, Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, and Academic and Professional Skills. This foundation equips students with essential knowledge and practical abilities required for further study. The second year builds on these foundations, with advanced core modules including Business Ethics and Corporate Governance, Financial Management, Business and Corporate Law, Management Accounting Systems, and Financial Accounting and Reporting. Students also have the opportunity to choose option modules, such as Personal Financial Planning, Financial Modelling and Dealing, and Applied Business Analytics, which develop analytical and data-driven decision-making skills applicable across business environments. In the final year, students focus on specialized areas of accounting and finance, such as Financial and Corporate Reporting, Finance and Risk Management, and Management Control Systems, while selecting optional modules including Taxation, Fintech, Audit and Assurance, Carbon Accounting, Investment Management, Banking and Money, and International Finance. A placement project further develops practical experience, and module choices may provide exemptions from professional examinations. This structure ensures graduates are well-prepared for careers in accounting, finance, and related fields.
