COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical and Electronic Engineering BEng(Hons) degree provides a comprehensive education in the principles and applications of electrical engineering, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, shared with the Electronic and Computer Engineering course, students explore core topics such as engineering mathematics, analogue and digital electronics, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and electrical engineering fundamentals. Design projects integrate theory and practice, helping students develop problem-solving and technical skills early in their studies. In the second year, students advance their programming knowledge and gain hands-on experience in specialist laboratories, compiling, simulating, and implementing their designs. Modules cover electrical engineering principles, communication networks, dynamics and control, embedded systems, engineering design, and digital systems design, preparing students for complex engineering challenges. The final year focuses on independent and applied learning, including an individual project where students take a concept from a business plan through to completion, demonstrating project management, innovation, and technical expertise. Core modules include high voltage power, distribution and utilisation, electronics, and product design, while optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as networking and digital signal processing. Throughout the course, students develop practical skills, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities, equipping them for careers in diverse sectors including power generation, telecommunications, automation, and advanced electronics design.
