COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil with Structural Engineering BEng (Hons) degree provides a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices essential for designing and constructing safe, efficient, and sustainable structures. In the first year, students explore the core foundations of civil engineering, including surveying, structural and stress analysis, construction materials, geology, soil mechanics, and mathematics, while also working on a group project linked to the Engineering for People Design Challenge. The second year introduces more advanced structural topics and digital technologies widely used in the industry. Students gain computer programming, 2D/3D modelling, and Building Information Modelling (BIM) skills while engaging in group projects that involve designing, building, and testing small-scale structures. Modules include reinforced concrete design, geotechnical engineering, and road infrastructure engineering. In the final year, students focus on advanced structural engineering techniques, such as prestressed concrete design, which is vital for modern construction projects. They also study the dynamics and design of steel and concrete structures and undertake an individual project to showcase their technical and research abilities. A multidisciplinary group project further enhances teamwork and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates to tackle real-world engineering challenges and contribute to innovative, sustainable structural design and development in the professional field.
