COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering BEng (Hons) degree provides a strong foundation in the principles and practices of civil engineering, combining theoretical learning with practical design experience. In the first year, students explore core topics such as land and construction surveying, materials science, engineering geology, soil mechanics, and structural and stress analysis. They also engage in a group project as part of the Engineering for People Design Challenge, applying their knowledge to real-world contexts. The second year builds on this foundation with a deeper focus on design and analysis, covering modules such as structural analysis, concrete technology, computational mechanics, geotechnical engineering, and hydraulics. Students also participate in a group project involving the design of a simplified structure, enhancing teamwork and project management skills. In the final year, emphasis is placed on applying advanced civil engineering concepts through an individual research project and multidisciplinary group work. Core modules include the design of steel structures and an integrated approach to structural design, with optional modules allowing students to specialise in areas such as applied hydraulics, sustainable construction, geotechnical engineering, and environmental impact assessment. By graduation, students gain the technical expertise, analytical ability, and practical experience required for professional civil engineering roles.
