COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering with Construction Management BEng (Hons) degree provides a strong foundation in both civil engineering principles and construction management practices. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge of civil engineering within the context of business, society, and sustainability. Core topics include surveying, structural analysis, construction materials, geology, soil mechanics, and applied mathematics, along with a group project as part of the Engineering for People Design Challenge. The second year builds on this foundation, introducing more advanced subjects such as fluid and soil mechanics, computational mechanics, reinforced concrete design, and project management. Students begin applying their technical understanding to real-world design and construction problems, developing key analytical and managerial skills. In the final year, learners undertake an individual research project and choose from a range of optional modules to tailor their studies. Topics include sustainable construction, project planning, and building information modelling, allowing students to focus on emerging trends and technologies in the field. By the end of the course, graduates are equipped with the expertise to design, plan, and manage construction projects effectively while addressing sustainability and innovation challenges, preparing them for careers in civil engineering, project management, or related sectors.
