COURSE CURRICULUM

The Automotive Engineering BEng(Hons) degree provides a comprehensive foundation in mechanical and automotive engineering across three years of study. In the first year, students are introduced to core principles of mechanical engineering, gaining essential skills in areas such as computer-aided design, materials, energy systems, and manufacturing. A major design project integrates conceptual design, manufacturing, and testing, allowing students to apply their learning practically while developing problem-solving and design skills. Modules in engineering mathematics, mechanical design, engineering practice, and materials and manufacture support this foundation. In the second year, students begin to specialise in automotive engineering, building on their knowledge of engineering systems, dynamics and control, mechanics of materials, thermofluids, engineering design, and manufacturing engineering. This stage focuses on the design and analysis of engineering systems, preparing students for more advanced and specialised studies. In the final year, students focus on vehicle design, advanced fluid dynamics, and automotive powertrain and sensor technology, while completing an individual project that is often supported by industry, providing hands-on experience in real-world engineering applications. Modules such as control systems for automotive applications, automotive computational fluid dynamics, and vehicle design further develop technical expertise. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and industry-relevant experience to prepare graduates for careers in automotive engineering, design, research, and development.
