COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Science degree offers a comprehensive exploration of society, combining sociology, social policy, criminology, and psychology to help students understand how individuals and communities interact within complex social systems. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational concepts such as social inequalities, social welfare, and the methods social scientists use to conduct research. Core modules develop analytical and research skills, while optional modules allow students to explore related areas, including psychology, criminology, and political systems. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of society by engaging with more specialised topics, such as social movements, policing, cultural diversity, and justice, while continuing to develop research and analytical skills. Optional modules provide the flexibility to focus on areas of personal interest, supporting both academic and professional development. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation, allowing them to conduct an in-depth investigation into a topic of their choice, while continuing to study optional modules that enable further specialisation. Across all three years, the degree combines theoretical learning with practical insights, preparing graduates for careers in social research, policy development, community engagement, criminal justice, and other fields where understanding human behaviour and society is essential. The program equips students with critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills to address contemporary social challenges.
