COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Architecture BA (Hons) degree at Brighton is structured to develop creative, technical, and professional skills over three progressive years. In the first year, students gain essential design and communication skills, learning architectural drawing, making, and professional CAD software, while exploring sustainable systems, materials, structures, and the physics of the built environment. Core modules such as Fundamentals of Interior Architecture, Architecture Criticism, Strategies and Processes, and Technology: Principles provide a strong foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of design, enabling innovative responses to live projects. The second year expands on these skills through workshops and projects that integrate social, environmental, and political considerations, fostering awareness of global challenges while applying knowledge to real local projects. Modules including Design Modes, Experience and Systems, Technology: Strategies, and Architecture Criticism 2 encourage students to contextualize their work within historical and contemporary design frameworks. In the final year, students focus on personal interests and professional development, producing a portfolio and engaging with modules that support career aspirations, such as Design Agency, Experience and Systems, Skills: Resolution, Architecture Criticism 3, and Future Practice. Throughout the course, students participate in end-of-year exhibitions, showcasing their work and demonstrating their creative, technical, and professional expertise. Graduates leave with the skills, confidence, and portfolio needed for careers in interior architecture, spatial design, and related creative industries.
