COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Art and Design degree provides a structured pathway for developing creative, technical, and professional skills within the video game industry. In the first year, students explore practical and analytical approaches to games art and design through a series of projects, supported by personal and group tutorials. Modules such as Cultural Contexts, Introduction to Games Design, Narrative Design, and Introduction to Games Art establish a strong foundation in both theory and practice, with opportunities to collaborate with Animation students and participate in industry-inspired lectures and workshops. In the second year, students build on this foundation by focusing on creative development and industry-relevant skills. Projects encourage collaboration with peers and engagement with the wider professional community, while modules including Advanced Games Art and Design, Visual and Concept Development, Virtual Games Studio, and Critical and Professional Perspectives enhance research, technical proficiency, and visual storytelling. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a major personal project, an extended research dissertation, and professional practice modules. Guidance from teaching staff and visiting industry professionals supports the development of a professional portfolio, critical thinking, and career readiness. By graduation, students are equipped with the creativity, technical expertise, and professional understanding required to pursue careers in games design, animation, or related creative industries.
