COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fine Art BA degree is structured to develop students’ creative, technical, and critical abilities through progressive stages of studio practice and theoretical study. In the first year, students are introduced to core principles of art-making and research, exploring the relationship between thinking and making through experimentation with materials and processes. Modules such as Studio Practice: Thinking and Making and Making and Sites encourage students to articulate ideas visually and verbally while engaging with global art histories and contemporary practices. The second year focuses on refining individual artistic approaches, enhancing communication skills, and understanding the professional aspects of exhibition-making. Students take part in a public group exhibition, gaining experience in presenting resolved artworks, collaborating with peers, and managing curatorial roles. Through modules like Practice-led Research, they develop confidence in situating their work within cultural and theoretical contexts. In the final year, students consolidate their creative and technical skills, producing a coherent body of work for the degree show. Emphasis is placed on professional development, critical writing, and documentation, preparing students for postgraduate study or creative industry careers. The program fosters independence, critical awareness, and artistic identity, enabling graduates to confidently navigate the contemporary art world.
