COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animation BA(Hons) degree is a practice-based program designed to develop students’ creative and technical skills across 2D and 3D animation, narrative design, and motion graphics. In the first year, students explore animation through a series of creative projects that develop storytelling abilities and artistic techniques, supported by group and personal tutorials and lectures from visiting industry professionals. Collaboration with Games Art and Design students allows early experience of working in interdisciplinary teams, while modules such as Introduction to Animation, Cultural Contexts in Animation, Sequence and Narrative in Animation, and Animation Principles and Practice lay the foundations for creative and technical development. In the second year, students focus on building their creative potential and professional skills through projects with strong industry links. Emphasis is placed on collaborative work, research, and analytical documentation of project outcomes, while modules including Global Challenges – Visual Communication, Visual Language and Personal Voice in Animation, Advanced Animation, Animation Critical and Professional Contexts, and Animation Industry Studio prepare students for real-world animation environments. In the final year, students consolidate their skills in a major personal project and dissertation, with guidance from teaching staff and visiting professionals. Modules such as Animation Contexts and Consolidation, Animation Research Project, Animation Studio: Final Project, and Professional Practice Animation equip students with the expertise, portfolio, and professional readiness to pursue careers in animation, media, or related creative industries.
