COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Rehabilitation Therapy degree is a specialised healthcare programme that prepares students to become professional sport rehabilitators capable of assessing, treating, and managing musculoskeletal injuries and health conditions. The course combines scientific knowledge with extensive practical experience, focusing on anatomy, physiology, movement analysis, rehabilitation, exercise prescription, strength and conditioning, and clinical reasoning. Students learn how the human body functions across the lifespan, how injuries and illnesses affect movement and wellbeing, and how tailored rehabilitation programmes can help people recover and return to sport, work, and everyday activities. Throughout the programme, students develop practical skills in physical assessment, patient communication, exercise prescription, athlete testing, and rehabilitation planning while applying person-centred and biopsychosocial approaches to care. The degree includes three professional practice placements, providing valuable hands-on experience in hospitals, sports clubs, clinics, and community settings, with opportunities to complete placements elsewhere in the UK or internationally. Students also explore rehabilitation in both athletic and general populations, learning how to support people with conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, obesity, chronic pain, neurological disorders, and mental health challenges. Advanced modules develop expertise in strength and conditioning, injury prevention, performance enhancement, and evidence-based clinical decision-making. The programme also examines contemporary issues affecting sport and rehabilitation therapy and encourages students to consider future developments in healthcare and rehabilitation services. In the final year, students complete an independent research project, strengthening their research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience needed to work in sports clubs, rehabilitation clinics, hospitals, private practices, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The degree also provides an excellent foundation for postgraduate study and professional development, enabling graduates to pursue rewarding careers focused on improving movement, restoring function, preventing injury, and enhancing health and performance across diverse populations.
