COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme provides a comprehensive education in human movement, rehabilitation, and healthcare practice, preparing students to become skilled and compassionate physiotherapists. The course begins by building a strong scientific foundation through modules in anatomy, movement, and physiology, helping students understand how the body functions and how illness, injury, and ageing affect movement and wellbeing. Students learn to assess patients, take clinical histories, and develop communication and professional skills essential for healthcare practice. As the programme progresses, students study physiotherapy management across a range of conditions, including musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, and respiratory disorders. They gain practical experience in assessment, treatment planning, exercise prescription, rehabilitation, and supporting people with long-term health conditions. Modules in exercise and physical activity for public health teach students how to design personalised exercise programmes and promote healthier lifestyles using evidence-based approaches and digital tools. Professional studies modules focus on leadership, teamwork, ethical practice, service improvement, and professional development in line with the standards of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). Advanced modules in clinical reasoning and contemporary physiotherapy help students manage complex patient needs, understand current healthcare challenges, and explore the future direction of the profession. The course also includes a research project that develops critical thinking, research, and analytical skills, enabling students to contribute to evidence-based practice. Throughout the degree, students combine scientific knowledge with hands-on clinical experience, preparing them for careers in hospitals, community health services, GP practices, schools, mental health services, private clinics, charities, sports rehabilitation, research, and education.
