COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Clinical Psychology degree combines core psychological theory with specialised knowledge of mental health, clinical practice, and human behaviour. In the first year, you build a strong foundation by studying developmental, social, cognitive, biological, and forensic psychology, alongside counselling foundations and research methods. You explore mental health conditions, criminal behaviour, and the scientific methods psychologists use to investigate human experiences. In the second year, the course develops your understanding of cognition, human development, social influences, psychopathology, and evolutionary psychology. You also gain practical clinical skills, learning how to assess mental health needs, develop case formulations, and apply evidence-based approaches while understanding ethical issues and professional responsibilities. In the final year, you undertake your own empirical research project and explore advanced topics such as inclusive mental health services, clinical governance, and professional practice. A wide range of optional modules allows you to tailor your studies to your interests, including health psychology, addiction, environmental psychology, gaming psychology, occupational psychology, positive psychology, cognitive ageing, male psychology, women’s reproductive health, and human-animal interactions. The course also offers opportunities for psychology placements and research experience, giving you valuable real-world exposure in healthcare, education, and community settings. Throughout the programme, you develop strong research, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills while learning to understand mental health from biological, psychological, and social perspectives. Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), the degree provides Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) for eligible graduates and serves as an excellent foundation for careers in clinical psychology, mental health services, counselling, research, social work, education, human resources, and a wide range of healthcare and public sector professions.
