COURSE CURRICULUM
The BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Practice curriculum combines scientific knowledge, professional skills, and extensive clinical experience to prepare students for a career in modern healthcare. The programme begins with Bio-Psychosocial Principles of Health and Wellbeing, where students study anatomy, physiology, psychology, microbiology, and public health, learning how the human body functions and how illness affects wellbeing. Enquiry for Nursing Practice develops academic and research skills, teaching students how to use evidence-based information, reference sources correctly, and communicate effectively with different audiences. Foundations of Nursing Practice introduces the core principles of adult nursing, focusing on health promotion, patient assessment, reflective practice, professionalism, and essential clinical skills through simulated learning and interactions with Patient, Carer and Public Involvement participants. Practice Placement 1 provides the first opportunity to apply classroom learning in real healthcare settings. In the second year, Holistic Nursing for Altered Physiology to Promote Wellbeing explores common diseases, pathological changes, co-morbidities, and treatments, helping students understand how illnesses affect individuals and how nurses can support recovery. Application of Evidence Based Practice for Nurses develops critical appraisal and research skills, enabling students to integrate the best available evidence into healthcare decision-making and policy. Practice Placement 2 further strengthens clinical competence through supervised professional experience. Leadership and Interprofessional Learning focuses on teamwork, leadership theories, healthcare improvement, ethical issues, and collaboration with different healthcare professionals while exploring the role of information technology and culturally sensitive care. Practice Placement 3 enables students to care for individuals with complex health needs across different stages of life, with particular attention to person-centred care, co-morbidity, and pharmacological principles. The programme concludes with a Dissertation, where students undertake an independent research project on a topic related to nursing practice. Overall, the curriculum provides a balanced combination of scientific knowledge, practical skills, leadership abilities, research experience, and professional placements, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care in a variety of healthcare settings.
