COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Engineering curriculum provides students with a broad and modern understanding of engineering principles, combining technical knowledge with practical and management skills required in today's industrial environment. The programme begins with Digital Technologies for Engineering and Engineering Design Fundamentals, where students develop essential abilities in research, technical communication, modelling, programming, design processes, materials science, and sustainable engineering practices. Mechanical Principles and Electronic and Electrical Principles provide a strong foundation in mathematics, mechanics, electrical systems, and electronics, enabling students to understand the fundamental concepts that underpin engineering applications. The Interdisciplinary Group Project encourages teamwork and research by allowing students to investigate real engineering challenges through experiments, simulations, and analytical methods. As the course progresses, students explore emerging technologies through Smart Factories, which introduces robotics, programmable controllers, 3D printing, automation, and the principles of Industry 4.0. Sustainable Engineering focuses on designing environmentally responsible solutions that balance economic, social, and environmental considerations. Engineering and Operations Management develops knowledge of product development, supply chain management, logistics, demand forecasting, and manufacturing operations in increasingly digital industries. An optional Placement Year provides valuable industrial experience and opportunities to apply academic knowledge in professional settings. In the final stages of the programme, Digital Manufacturing and Production Systems examines how digital technologies transform manufacturing processes and improve efficiency in modern factories. Applied Engineering and Manufacturing Techniques combines engineering knowledge with leadership, project management, maintenance strategies, risk management, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, vibration analysis, and thermal imaging. Advanced Maintenance Practice further develops expertise in maintaining and improving engineering systems and industrial operations. The programme culminates in an individual Project, where students undertake an original engineering investigation, develop innovative solutions, and produce a professional report that demonstrates their planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Overall, the curriculum equips graduates with comprehensive technical knowledge, practical experience, and professional competencies for careers in manufacturing, automation, digital engineering, smart factories, energy, aerospace, automotive, and other advanced engineering industries.
