COURSE CURRICULUM
The BA (Hons) Screen Performance curriculum combines acting, filmmaking, and creative production to prepare students for careers in film, television, and digital media. The programme begins with Screen Acting 1 and TV Drama, where students develop on-camera acting techniques, character development skills, and an understanding of multi-camera television production. Creative Storytelling introduces the fundamentals of screenwriting, including character creation, dialogue, plot structure, and genre, while also exploring key theories of film and visual storytelling. Filmmaking Craft Skills and Filmmaking Craft Skills 2 provide hands-on experience in all stages of production, from script development and directing to camera operation, lighting, sound, editing, and production management. Students also learn about crowdfunding and digital marketing strategies for promoting creative projects. TV Drama 2 expands practical experience by focusing on live television production and location filming, helping students understand how production choices influence audience engagement. Screen Acting 2 further develops professional acting techniques and practitioner-inspired methods specifically designed for television and film environments. Genre Filmmaking allows students to explore dramatic genres such as comedy, horror, romance, and thrillers while experimenting with innovative approaches to storytelling across traditional and immersive media platforms. The Multiplatform module introduces students to emerging forms of performance, including virtual reality, motion capture, podcasting, voice acting, animation, and television presenting, enabling them to build versatile performance skills and create professional showreel material. Creative Enterprise focuses on employability, entrepreneurship, and personal branding through the development of digital portfolios and practical industry projects. Film for Social Change offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with Northumbria Police on awareness and training films that address social issues and explore the impact of participatory filmmaking. Finally, the Showcase module enables students to produce a professional showreel and reflect on their personal and professional development. Overall, the curriculum equips graduates with practical performance skills, production expertise, and industry knowledge, preparing them for careers as screen actors, filmmakers, directors, presenters, voice artists, and creative media professionals.
