COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Photography, Video and Digital Imaging curriculum provides students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary photography, digital media, and visual storytelling while developing both technical expertise and creative practice. Studio Photography introduces students to professional image-making by exploring the creative use of light and colour, studio equipment, digital workflows, and post-production techniques. The Digital Image develops skills in digital photography, image editing, Adobe Photoshop, generative AI imaging, and mobile editing applications, encouraging students to experiment with innovative approaches to visual creation. Through Moving Image, students gain practical experience in video production, learning camera operation, editing, sequencing, and the creation of professional moving-image content. Investigating Photography and Issues in Contemporary Photography encourage critical thinking about photographic practices, emerging technologies, and the social and cultural impact of images in an increasingly digital world. Collaborative Creativity provides opportunities to work on live industry projects and real commission briefs while developing valuable professional skills such as communication, teamwork, adaptability, and resilience. Narrative and Storytelling focuses on the creation of self-directed visual projects, teaching students how to edit, sequence, and present compelling stories through books, zines, and multimedia formats. Cultures of Display examines how photographic work is exhibited and experienced across different contexts and audiences. Professional Practice helps students analyse their career aspirations and produce industry-oriented projects in areas such as portraiture, fashion, landscape, or commercial photography while building a professional digital portfolio and career plan. The Portfolio Review allows students to refine and showcase their work, while the Final Major Project provides the opportunity to develop and publicly present an independent project tailored to a chosen audience and professional context. Overall, the programme equips students with advanced creative, technical, and professional skills in photography, video production, and digital imaging, preparing graduates for careers in commercial photography, visual storytelling, digital media, publishing, creative industries, and a wide range of professional and artistic fields.
