COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Performing Arts curriculum provides students with extensive practical training across acting, musical theatre, digital performance, and creative production. Modules such as TV Drama and Digital Performance develop skills in screen acting, TV presenting, podcasting, voice-over work, and motion capture, helping students build confidence and prepare for careers in modern media and performance industries. Pantomime Production introduces both performance and production techniques, allowing students to explore acting, singing, dancing, puppetry, comedy, and technical areas such as costume design, lighting, and set construction while working collaboratively on a full production. Through Space and Place, students perform in non-traditional venues and community settings, including historical locations and cabaret performances, learning how to adapt their work to different audiences and environments. Musical Theatre Ensemble and Musical Theatre focus on acting, singing, and movement while providing experience in rehearsing and performing full-scale musicals for live audiences. Creative Practices encourages students to develop original performances through acting, vocal training, and choreography, strengthening their artistic and creative abilities. Modules such as Creative Careers (Touring Theatre) and Final Major Showcase prepare students for professional employment by developing leadership, directing, choreography, staging, and production management skills while encouraging career planning and self-reflection. Optional modules, including Film for Social Change, provide opportunities to collaborate with organisations such as Northumbria Police to create awareness films and explore how performance can contribute to social change. Creative Enterprise further develops entrepreneurial and business skills for careers in the arts. Throughout the programme, students participate in public performances, collaborative projects, and industry-focused experiences that build confidence, creativity, and professional expertise. Overall, the curriculum equips graduates with the practical skills, artistic versatility, and industry knowledge needed for careers as performers, actors, musical theatre artists, directors, choreographers, producers, educators, and arts administrators within the creative and cultural sectors.
