COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Media Production curriculum provides students with a comprehensive understanding of modern media creation, combining practical production skills with industry knowledge and career development. The course begins with Media Narratives, Genres and the Self-Shooter, where students explore the evolution of broadcasting and create short-form digital content in response to professional briefs. Through Radio and Podcasting, students develop audio production skills by producing content for the award-winning Spark radio station and learning how to create engaging programmes and podcasts. TV Studio Practice introduces students to real studio environments, where they work collaboratively to produce drama and factual entertainment programmes while gaining experience in virtual production techniques. Filmmaking Craft Skills and Documentary Production further strengthen students’ storytelling and production abilities. Creative Industries: Your Career Pathway prepares students for employment by teaching freelancing, entrepreneurship, business planning, and professional networking skills. In Creative Studio Practice, students create original broadcast content for Spark TV, taking on different production roles and developing advanced post-production and broadcasting techniques. Podcasting and Creative Audio focuses on storytelling through sound, enabling students to produce original content for radio and podcast platforms. Professional Client Production gives students the opportunity to create media projects for real clients while developing showreels and professional portfolios. Through Spark Productions, students gain hands-on experience producing and presenting content across radio, podcasts, video, and live broadcasts in a professional media environment. Finally, Major Practical Projects 1 and 2 allow students to independently develop, produce, and deliver substantial creative projects with academic supervision, encouraging critical reflection and professional practice. Overall, the programme equips students with technical expertise, creativity, teamwork, and industry experience, preparing them for successful careers in television, radio, filmmaking, digital media, content production, and the wider creative industries.
