COURSE CURRICULUM
combines traditional artistic techniques with modern digital technologies, preparing students for careers across the creative industries. The course begins by building strong foundations in drawing, painting, mixed media, and visual communication through modules such as Drawing, Painting and Traditional Media, where students develop observational skills, life drawing techniques, and an understanding of contemporary illustration practices. Digital Image-Making introduces industry-standard software including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, enabling students to create professional digital artwork and develop essential design skills. Through Printmaking and Illustration, students experiment with traditional techniques such as linocut, drypoint, and collagraph printing, exploring how handcrafted processes can enrich creative expression and portfolio development. As the programme progresses, modules such as Illustration as Creative Profession and Advanced Digital Illustration encourage students to solve visual problems creatively, explore digital painting, 3D design, animation, and contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence and ethical representation. Advanced Printmaking further develops technical expertise while encouraging sustainable approaches to artistic production. Employability is embedded throughout the degree, with opportunities for live projects, placements, competitions, and collaborations through Exploring the Creative Industries and the optional Design Applied Professional Practice year. In the final stage, students focus on developing a distinctive creative identity, undertaking research-driven projects, and producing an ambitious major project that demonstrates their artistic vision and professional capabilities. Modules such as Creative Identity, Major Project Preproduction, Creativity and Research Innovation, and Major Project Production help students refine their portfolios, strengthen their professional skills, and prepare for employment or freelance practice. Graduates leave with strong abilities in illustration, visual storytelling, design thinking, digital technologies, communication, and project management, opening career opportunities as illustrators, concept artists, graphic designers, animators, digital artists, publishing illustrators, advertising creatives, and freelance practitioners. The course equips students with the creativity, technical expertise, and professional confidence needed to thrive in the evolving and highly competitive creative industries.
