COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Film Production programme provides an in-depth education in filmmaking by combining creative storytelling, technical expertise, and professional production experience. The course begins with modules such as Cinematic Narratives and Creative Storytelling, where students learn how filmmakers use visual language, composition, movement, character, dialogue, and genre to create compelling stories for audiences. Practical modules such as TV Studio Practice and Filmmaking Craft Skills introduce students to real studio environments and the essential techniques of directing, camera operation, sound recording, lighting, editing, and production management. Through Documentary Production, students explore both the theory and practice of documentary filmmaking, developing skills in research, pitching, ethical filmmaking, and collaborative production. As students progress, they form production companies and manage projects through all stages of development, from scripting and filming to post-production and distribution, while also gaining experience in crowdfunding and digital marketing. The programme encourages creative experimentation through modules such as Genre Filmmaking, where students examine genres including horror, comedy, romance, and thrillers while producing their own original content. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as post-production, scriptwriting, cinematography, and innovative filmmaking, developing advanced technical skills in editing, sound design, visual effects, colour grading, and moving camera techniques. Social Film Production enables students to work with real clients and communities to create films that address important social issues while developing ethical and professional practices. In the final stages of the course, students undertake independent and client-based projects, create professional showreels, and complete major practical projects that demonstrate their creative vision and technical abilities. Throughout the programme, students develop valuable transferable skills including teamwork, communication, leadership, project management, and problem-solving. By graduation, they are well prepared for careers in film, television, and digital media as directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, camera operators, production managers, scriptwriters, sound recordists, and freelance filmmakers, while also possessing the entrepreneurial skills needed to establish their own production companies.
